The study of stem cells of the hair follicle of mice led to the conclusion that hair loss is due to the fact that DNA damaged stem cells, and is particularly strong when it suffers gene Col17a1. It is damage of this gene and cause baldness, not only in mice, further work showed that the same gene is also responsible for hair loss in people. The discovery means that the researchers opens new path for drug development against age-related baldness.
